2017 Land Rover Discovery is the next generation luxurious SUV with a long and storied past. The car is spotted having a road test in a camouflaged cover. It will have a rounded-off Range Rover look to take the retro design with radical change. Expect to see a supercharged engine under the hood and lightweight aluminum body panels.

Just like Range Rover, the next Discovery is expected to ride on an all-aluminum chassis. This lighter frame will help improve performance both off and on road and helps cut weight that lead to fuel savings unlike the current Discovery. To maintain long-time reminiscence and keep its identifying features for fans, the Discovery’s looks will be kept but with slight reinventing. 2017 Land Rover Discovery will carry back the split-level tailgate and stepped roof.

The upcoming powertrains details remain secret but a turbocharger on diesel units and a supercharger intake systems on gasoline engines are carried over from the outgoing model. There will be heavy revisions toward the JLR’s 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 and the current LR4 Discovery’s 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 that make them have more power and better fuel economy. It is also pleasant to see a new plug-in hybrid powertrain in 2017 Land Rover Discovery. The SVR could be added with the V-8. Stronger engines, greater fuel economy and a reduced curb weight mean it could tow more capacity.

It seems it will get the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission but with different calibration. Land Rover’s third gen Terrain Response system would likely be introduced. The suspension will be an air ride fully independent. It will be the same with the current model that can go off road track in a raised ride height and cruising the highway in a lower stance. The new 2017 Land Rover Discovery will also be released for US audiences which seem under the LR5 name.
