2017 Fiat 500 X Abarth is the high-performance version of the regular 500X. Due to the increasing popularity of compact crossovers in the Europe and U.S., it seems like all carmakers are making their model. They add performance specs into these small utility vehicles such as the 2015 Mercedes GLA 45 AMG or the 2016 Juke-R Nismo. At the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the 500X was unveiled, and an Abarth version could follow and become the first crossover to wear the famous Scorpion badge. Fiat has not officially announced the details of the 2017 Fiat 500 X Abarth, but it might come in October at the 2016 Paris Motor Show or by the end of the year. In early 2017, the upgraded crossover should be available in the U.S. market.

At first glance, a regular 500X inspires most of the design styling of the prototype but when carefully inspected it show different details. There is no proper 500X beneath it since this Abarth comes with dual exhaust outlets while the 500X has one exhaust pipe. This means there’s a more powerful engine powering the car. The new Abarth also comes with the sportier wheels than those of the 500X available. The production model of 2017 Fiat 500 X Abarth could receive a more aggressive front fascia updates, larger air intakes for the thirstier engine, upgraded side skirts, a lowered suspension, and a rear diffuser.

The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider would shares the same 1.75-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with the Fiat 500X Abarth. There are also models with an engine similar to that of the 2018 Fiat 124 Abarth Spider but detuned to generate 200 hp. This reduced power should be enough for the small crossover. Four wheel drives will likely be available for the 2017 Fiat 500 X Abarth, but Fiat might want to save weight with the front-wheel drive.
