There will be two gasoline engine options available for the 2017 VW Beetle Cabriolet. Because of diesel emissions scandal, VW drops the 2.0L TDI unit. A 1.8-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine generates 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque and returns 21 mg city and 30 highways. A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine offer a bit more power in a ragtop generating 210 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque and returns 21 mpg city and 29 highway. It comes standard with a 6-speed manual and optional with a 6-speed automatic double-clutch DSG transmission.

Side curtain airbags and dual front airbags are standard safety equipment. There are also stability controls and traction systems in addition to smart collision response.
